The Nepalese Rupee (NPR) remains relatively stable against the US dollar, currently trading near 0.006655, which is about 2.7% below its three-month average of 0.006838. The currency has moved within a narrow 5.1% range, from 0.006616 to 0.006956, showing little volatility recently.
There are some factors to consider going forward. Nepal’s high foreign exchange reserves—over NPR 3.2 trillion—provide a cushion, mainly due to strong remittance inflows. Additionally, recent lifting of the ban on high-denomination Indian notes will likely improve cross-border trade, supporting the local economy.
However, political instability, including protests and government uncertainty, adds some downside risk to the NPR’s stability. Meanwhile, the US dollar remains supported by geopolitical tensions and rising oil prices, which could influence the dollar’s strength and, in turn, impact Nepal’s currency.
Overall, the NPR remains steady but investors should watch for signs of increased political or economic uncertainty, which could lead to volatility in the coming weeks.
